MISSION – Edwin Wayne Sparks, 86, passed away on Friday, Dec. 24, 2010, at his residence in Sharyland.

He was born on June 17, 1924 in Aquilla, Texas to Nathan and Alma Sparks. He attended Edinburg High School and served in the Army Air Corp, and was stationed at Moore Air Base. He was a farmer, land leveler and business developer. Loyal to the Sharyland area, he donated the land for Jessie Jensen Elementary and was always willing to donate his services to the Sharyland schools.

OBIT_Edwin-Wayne-SparksWayne is survived by his children, Kenneth Sparks, Linda Bleibdrey, J.B. Townsend, and Kevin Sparks; sister, Hazel McLaughlin; and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Helen Sparks; sisters, Lu Harper and Katherine Rodgers; and a brother, Roy Sparks.

The funeral service was held Dec. 27 at St. Peter and St. Paul Episcopal Church in Mission. Burial followed at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen. Services were under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter & St. Paul Episcopal Church, 2310 N. Stewart Rd., Mission, Texas 78574.
