OBIT: Gildardo H. Longoria

MISSION - Gildardo H. Longoria, 86, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at Mission Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Rio Grande City and raised in the San Isidro area until age 17 when he enlisted in U.S. Navy and served in the American Campaign: Asiatic Pacific Area.  After marrying his beautiful bride, Haydee Saenz, and a brief job assignment in Mexico, they made their home in Corpus Christi where he worked for Reynolds Aluminum for the next 35 years. Upon retirement they returned to their beloved Rio Grande Valley and made their home in Mission.

Mr. Longoria was preceded in death by his wife; parents, Melecio Longoria and Teresa Hinojosa Longoria; son, Gerardo Longoria; brothers, Ramon and Melecio Longoria Jr.; and sisters, Antonia, Francisca, Elvira and Guadalupe.

He is survived by a granddaughter, Melodie Longoria; brother, Jose G. (Ninfa) Longoria; and sister, Maria L. Benavides.

The funeral mass will take place on Monday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission followed by burial at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
