MISSION – Jose G. “Lupe” Vela, 66, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at Mission Regional Medical Center in Mission.
The love of his life was his family, especially his grandchildren; he will always be remembered for his community involvement and political support of his candidates. One of his favorite past times, was traveling with his wife, in particular he loved gambling in Las Vegas. He will be greatly missed at the Class of 1965 Reunion, which he was looking forward to next month.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Dionicio and Sara Vela, and siblings, Olivia Ramirez, Lucy Rodriguez, and Ramon Vela.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Ester Vela of Mission; children, Sara Vela of Mission, Jose Alberto (Mandi) Vela of Mission; grandchildren, Dehra and Daniel Vela; siblings, Ninfa Ramirez of McAllen, Alberto (Alicia) Vela of Edinburg, Socorro Reyna of Freeport, Maria de Jesus Cerda of Coppell, and Zulema Salinas of Mission.
A funeral mass will be held Monday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen. Services are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission.
