Juan J. Vela, 61, was born on Sept. 11, 1950, and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011. After a brave series of battles with his health, Juan passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rosita A. Vela, sons, Juan J. (Kelly) Vela Jr., Ricardo (Mara) Vela, Lorenzo (Graciela) Vela, Mauricio (Janie) Vela and Daniel (Bilma) Vela; daughters, Monica Vela, Norma Jean (Luis) De Leon, Rosalinda Vela and Veronica (Andres) Zavala; sisters, Guadalupe Canizalez, Ernestina Vela, Gertrudes Vela, Maria M. Vela, Francisca Confer and Ramona Vela; and 25 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Calixto L. Vela and Maria M. Vela, and brother, Eduardo Vela.
A memorial mass will be held on Monday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Alton. Interment follows at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mission.
Pallbearers will be Juan J. Vela Jr., Ricardo Vela, Lorenzo Vela, Mauricio Vela, Daniel Vela and Lorenzo Vela Jr.
