FORT WORTH – Herbert R. Melch Jr., 84, passed away Saturday night, Dec. 10, 2011, in Bonita Springs, Fla., after a long illness.

A rosary is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Greenwood Funeral Home, 3100 White Settlement Rd., in Fort Worth.  A funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15, at St. Andrews Catholic Church.  A private entombment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to JoAnne's House at Hope Hospice, 27200 Imperial Parkway, Bonita Springs, FL 34135.

Dr. Melch attended Mission High School and later graduated from Tulane University. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas at Galveston. Dr. Melch served as a lieutenant commander and a physician in the Korean War. Following his military service, he maintained a family practice for 47 years in Fort Worth.

Survivors include his sons, Jeffrey Melch and wife, Kitty, of Fort Worth and Michael Melch and wife, Jennifer, of Potomac, MD; daughter, Michelle Swan and husband, Nate, of Fort Myers, FL; sister, Maxine Overstreet and husband, Tom, of Houston and Laguna Vista; and his dear grandchildren, Chase, Hunter, Madeline, Michael Jr., Savanah, Donovan and Isabella.

Dr. Melch was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christine Ferrara Melch, and his parents.
