MISSION – Lt. Kevin Scott Petit Jr., 27, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Pharr.
He was a 2008 graduate of The University of Texas-Pan American with a bachelor’s degree in biology. A member of the Army National Guard, he was deployed to Iraq for a period of a year. When he returned, he was hired at UTPA as the freshman military science professor in the ROTC Department.
Lt. Petit was an active member of Baptist Temple in McAllen.
He is survived by his wife, Ashley Petit of Mission; mother, Luisa Marmaduke of Mission; siblings, Kristopher Petit of Brownsville, Krystal Petit of Mission, and Kyle Petit of Mission; and father, Kevin Scott Petit Sr.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Joseph and Carol Petit, and his grandfather, Manuel Nieto.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 18, from 1 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mission. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 19, at 10 a.m. at Baptist Temple. Burial will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
