MISSION - Guadalupe Rosas, 88, passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at Retama Manor Nursing Home in Edinburg.
Mr. Rosas was a self-taught mechanical engineer with only a first-grade education, developed the Valley's first onion loader and went on to develop multiple conveyer systems for the produce industry. He traveled across the U.S. and Latin America installing the machinery he created.
He is survived by his children, Maria Martha Ramirez Rosas, Esmeralda Castaneda, Javier Juventino Rosas, Rosalinda Reyna and Ramiro Rosas, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Rosas, and his wife, Maria Amelia G. Rosas.
A graveside service was held Jan. 3 at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Mission. Services were under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home of Mission.
