MISSION - Irene Peña Negrete, 69, passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 at Mission Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Peña was born on March 31, 1942 in Monahans. She worked for the City of Mission from 1982 to 1987 as the manager of the water department and later as the City Secretary. She was also the owner of Peñas Auto Body in Mission.
She is survived by her husband, Odon O. Peña; her daughters, Jane M. Cantu (Natividad Martinez), Rebecca Solis (Steven E. Solis), Victoria Pena; and her grandchildren, Kevin N. Cantu, Sharla P. Cantu, Matilda Martinez, Maranda Martinez, Kayla N. Solis, S. Patrick Solis, Eric M. Solis, Shawn Andrew Vela, and Evangelina J. Anzaldua. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Como Negrete, Gilbert Negrete, Susie Contreras, Trini Isler, and Francis Marrero.
Mrs. Peña was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Negrete and Prisca Coronado; sister, Evangelina Campos; and brothers, Jerry Negrete and Fortino Negrete.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, Feb. 14, from 1 to 9 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Flores Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Mission. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Mission.
