OBIT: Homero G. Mendiola

MISSION - Homero G. Mendiola, 65, passed away on Friday, March2, 2012 at McAllen Medical Center.

Mr. Mendiola was born on December 1, 1946 in Diaz Ordaz, Tamps., Mexico to Natividad Mendiola and Lucia Garcia.

He was a United States Marine and fought during the war in Vietnam. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3895 in La Joya and The Military Order of the Purple Heart. He served as a member of the Honor Guard in both organizations and with American Legion Post #93.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Maria Alicia Mendiola; children, Maria Lucia Rodriguez, Lazaro Mendiola, Homero Javier Mendiola, Miguel Angel Rodriguez, and Maria Alicia Rodriguez; siblings, Maria de la Luz Villanueva, Israel Mendiola, Aurora Gonzalez, Modesta Campos, Sandra Delgado, Mary Martinez and Eliamar Martinez.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Natividad Mendiola, and brother, Natividad Mendiola, Jr.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 6, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Virgil Wilson Memorial Chapel in Mission. He funeral mass will be held Wednesday, March7, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Mission. Interment follows at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission with full military honors to be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #3895.
