MISSION - Carlos "Cookie" Garza Jr., 42, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at his residence in Mission.
Born in Edinburg, he lived in Mission all of his life and was a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife, Sonia L. Garza of Mission; children, Alaina Avail Garza of Mission, Vanessa Garza of Edinburg, Demi Garza of Pleasanton, Miranda Garza of San Antonio, Tamara Bernal of Edinburg, and Samantha Garza of San Antonio; parents, Carlos and Julia Garza, Sr. of Edinburg; sister, Nora V. Garza Patruno, of Edinburg; and brother Erasmo Mendez of Edinburg.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 9, from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary at Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Mission. Interment follows at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 93 of Mission.
Serving as pallbearers will be Manuel Garcia, Gerardo Ramirez, Eduardo Ramirez, Roberto Ramirez, Joe Serna and Leonel Ramirez Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Adan Serna, Adrian Sanchez, Jerry Garza, Alfredo Garza Jr., and Erasmo Mendez.
