MISSION - Esther Meckel, 92, died Friday, Aug. 10, in Kyle.
Mrs. Meckel was born Dec. 3, 1919, in Jim Hogg County, the daughter of a dairy farmer, Magin Saenz and Manuela Gonzalez Saenz. Mrs. Meckel and her family had operated Meckel Nursery, a tree and landscaping business in Mission. She was a member of St. Paul’s Altar Society and St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include her sons, Alfred of San Antonio, Robert of Austin, Garry of Spring, and Jim of Painesville, Ohio; daughters, Norma Saenz of Mission and Sylvia Kukol of Kyle; sister, Gloria Escamilla of Corpus Christi; and 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Joe Meckel, and her parents.
The funeral mass was held Aug. 13 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Mission. Burial followed at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
