OBIT-Felicia Trigo Currie

MISSION - Felicia Trigo Currie, 95, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012 at her residence in Mission. She was born to Merced and Felipa Trigo on August 5, 1917 in Rio Grande City where she was raised.

She attended Pan American University in Edinburg. She married Mr. Fred Currie on January 4, 1944 whom she met while working at Fort Ringgold as a switch board operator. Active in her community, she taught Bible Classes at Madero and Hidalgo County Jail, served with the Red Cross and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rio Grande City and Mission where she taught Sunday school for 25 years. She was honored as First Lady of Mission in 1975 and elected by the Mission Literary Club as Mother of the Year prior to that. She worked with the Mission CISD for 30 years as a substitute and Parental Involvement Liaison.

Survivors include her children, Eldaa Avalos, Fred Currie Jr., Frank Currie, Martin Currie and Rachel Currie Henning; and 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers and one sister.

A funeral service was held Sept. 29 at the First United Methodist Church in Mission. Interment followed at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Mission. The family asked that memorial donations be made to the "Teach the Children Foundation."
