MISSION - Ruben Montemayor, 90, passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at his residence in Mission.
Mr. Montemayor was born in Laredo on May 20, 1922 and came to Mission in 1942 to register for the Army during WWII and was honorably discharged. He married Olivia Montemayor Flores, daughter of Reyes and Felepita Flores of Mission.
He started working in 1948 at Mission Shippers Inc. and was a foreman for 54 years. He was recognized by the City of Mission for 50 years of dedicated service and was honored by Governor George W. Bush for his service to the citrus industry. He received a plaque by the C.W.V. recognizing his contributions to that organization.
Mr. Montemayor is survived by his wife of 64 years, Olivia Montemayor; children Yolanda Martinez, Maria Elena Gonzalez, and Arturo Montemayor; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Federico and Francisca Montemayor; sisters, Anjelica, Maria Elena, Irma and Blanca Estela; and brother, Arturo.
Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 5, at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission from 1 to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Mission. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
