MISSION - Robert D. Rainey, 85, of Mission and formerly of Woodhull, Ill., died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Comfort House in McAllen.
He was born Nov. 25, 1927, in Aurora, Ill., to James and Alida Erickson Rainey. He graduated from Woodhull High School and married Lorna A. Rehn on Oct. 21, 1956.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Rainey was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal as an armament specialist, retiring in 1983. He specialized in the use and training of helicopter weapons systems. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in McAllen.
He is survived by his wife.
His parents preceded him in death.
A funeral service was held Feb. 18 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull. Burial followed in Woodhull Cemetery with graveside military services.
