MISSION - Jose Correa Jr., 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather and dedicated teacher passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Adante Assisted Living in San Antonio.

Jose Correa Jr. was born and raised in San Perlita and earned his bachelor's degree in agriculture in 1958 and master's degree in education in 1966 from what was then known as Texas College of Arts and Industries. In 1966, he joined the Mission school district and spent 32 years teaching at Mission High School before he retired in 1997. On February 16, 2013, members of the community and Mission CISD joined together to celebrate the dedication of the MCISD Agriculture Science Lab in honor of Jose 'Joe' Correa Jr.

Correa was also very involved in the community; he participated in the Lions Club, where he served as club president and as district governor. He was also very involved with the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, Texas Citrus Fiesta and Federal Credit Union.

Correa participated as president of the Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas and the Texas Examination of Current Administrators and Teachers advisory committee, and in 1981 he was recognized as Man of the Year in Mission.

Jose Correa Jr. is survived by his children, Teresa (Dwayne), Jaime (Marissa), Veronica (David), Luis A. (Mary), Javier (Melinda); grandchildren, Dwayne Jr., Alexandria, Angelika, Amanda, Kimberly, Danielle, Janel, Leloni, Liana; and sisters, Dulia and Maria G Correa.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Olga Tamez Correa on Sept. 17, 2006; parents, Jose and Olivia S Correa; brother, Rosendo Correa; and sisters Duvertina and Diamantina Correa.

Visitation will be held at Ric Brown Funeral Home in Mission on Friday, March 8, from 2 to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be held Saturday, March 9, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Mission with burial following at El Toro Cemetery in San Perlita.
