MISSION – Janiss Mangum Culberson, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2011.
Mrs. Culberson was born on April 30, 1936 to Prentiss P. and Helen J. Anderson Mangum. She lived in the Rio Grande Valley all her life. She was a teacher for 37 years in the McAllen, Mission and Sharyland school districts.
Survivors include her children, Linda Lance Goslin (Leslie) of San Antonio, Thomas W. Lance (Jerri) of Salem, Oregon, Jo Ann Lance Stevenson (Stan) of Houston, and James E. Culberson, Jr. of Mission; brothers, Billy Mangum (Rosa) of Mission and Robert Mangum (Vicky) of Benbrook; sisters, Shirley Griffin (Jim) of San Antonio, Carolynne Garrett of Springdale, Arkansas, and Mary McSloy (Darrell) of Kerrville; and seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, James E. Culberson Sr.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen on Friday, April 15. A private interment follows.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Wesley Putnam Ministries or the charity of one’s choice.
