MISSION - Gloria Garza, 80, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at her residence in Mission.
Born on May 27, 1933, Mrs. Garza graduated from Roma High School and attended Pan American College. She initiated her working career as secretary to Roma ISD's superintendents. She also worked as an accountant for J. C. Guerra and later for G & G Lumber Hardware in Roma. After retiring, she was a substitute teacher at Roma High School for several years.
She was a CCD teacher at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church for more than 20 years, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, director for the Roma Church Choir, a lector and was a member of the Roma Planning and Zoning Commission from 1996 to 1999.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Ruben Garza; son, Noel Garza; daughter, Melba G. Lozano; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Rene O. Gonzalez and Eleazar P. Gonzalez, and her parents, Rosa B. Gonzalez and Melquiades Gonzalez, all of Roma.
The visitation will be held on Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Sanchez Memorial Funeral Home in Roma with a rosary starting at 12:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Roy L. Snipes, OMI, officiating.
