OBIT-Monty Jeff Awbrey

MISSION - Monty Jeff "Big Monty" Awbrey, Sr., 64, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 22, 2013.

Mr. Awbrey was born in Houston and moved to the Valley with his family as an infant. He attended school and graduated from Sharyland High School. He was the owner and operator of Longhorn Paving and Oilfield Services where he worked all over the State of Texas.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Charlene Awbrey of Edinburg; children, Michelle Annette Elsworth of Mission, Melissa Jo Awbrey of Edinburg, Monty Jeff Awbrey of McAllen, Matthew Joseph Awbrey of Edinburg and Michael Clay Awbrey of Mission; sister, Teketha Wise of Austin; and 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Tina Awbrey, and brothers, Joe Dale Awbrey and Timothy B. Awbrey.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 26, from 3 to 9 p.m. at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 27, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen.

Serving as pallbearers will be Monty Awbrey Jr., Matthew Awbrey, Tim Awbrey, Michael Awbrey, John Atkinson, Jake Atkinson, Jimmy Jo Johnson, Doug Shock and Jeffrey Elsworth Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Lorin Best, Guy Bush, Tom Kyle, Scott Campbell, Skeeter Tinney, Forest Wilson, Dan Wright, Walt Peters, Nowell Borders, Doug Riley, Buster Atkinson and Brent Mangum.
