MISSION – Elvira G. Saldaña, 79, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Mission Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Saldaña was born and raised in Mission and graduated from Mission High School in 1952. She was a founding member of the Mission Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary and a longtime member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Mission.
Survivors include her children Carmen Fernandez, Abelardo J. Saldaña, Ricardo Saldaña, Jaime Saldaña and Jorge Saldaña; and 10 grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Abelardo G. Saldaña; daughter, Elvira Saldaña; and parents, Jose and Francisca Guerra.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 11, from 1 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mission. The funeral mass will be held on Monday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen.
