Richard Allen Abbott, 63, passed away on Aug. 1, 2013 in Lacey, Wash.
Mr. Abbott was born on April 21, 1950 to Robert and Olivia Abbott in Mission. He grew up in Mission and graduated from Mission High School in 1970 and married Norma Alicia Lopez on April 18, 1974. He served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1993 and then worked as a security director at Westfield Shopping Center Capital Mall.
Survivors include his wife, Norma; sons, Richard Jr. of Lacey, Shawn of Gulfport, Miss. and Kenneth of Lacey; brothers, Robert Jr. of Mission, Charles of Edinburg, Larry of Edinburg and Rudy of McAllen; sister, Barbara Barrera of McAllen; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church parish hall on Wednesday, Aug. 21. Inurnment will follow at 11 a.m. at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery.
