OBIT: Roger Alan Gilliland

PALMHURST - Roger Alan Gilliland, 63, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2011, at Doctors Hospital in Edinburg.

Mr. Gilliland was born on August 17, 1947, to Wilson and Libby (Garrett) Gilliland in Harlingen. He attended Raymondville High School where he was active in the band and football and continued his education at Bethany Nazarene College (Southern Nazarene University) in Bethany, Oklahoma where he graduated with a degree in business.

He was a quiet and wonderfully kind man. The things he loved most were watching the San Antonio Spurs and the Houston Astros; spending time with his very large family, which consisted of two sisters, Diane (Bill) Townsend, and Cheryl (Gary) Willms; many nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Margaret Nearhood; uncle, Julian Garrett; and many cousins; and watching the light of his life, granddaughter Hannah, grow.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sue, and two wonderful children, Alana (Scott) Talley, and Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 6, at 2 p.m. at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission.
