OBIT-Sgt. Jose Angel Jimenez Jr.

MISSION - Sgt. Jose Angel "Joey" Jimenez Jr., 31, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013 in Alabama.

Sgt. Jimenez was born in Harlingen to Jose Angel and Dora Maria (Rodriguez) Jimenez Sr. He is a 2000 graduate of Mission High School where he was a member of ROTC and the band. Jimenez joined the United States Army in 2000. During his service, he was awarded 20 medals and ribbons for his service.

Survivors include his parents; sister, Maritza Jimenez; and half-siblings, Feliberto Jimenez, Blanca Judy Guitterez, Jorge A. Jimenez, Jose A. Jimenez, Lori Jimenez, Joann Jimenez and Maria Isabel Dominguez.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ascencion O. Rodriguez and Maria Teresa G. Rodriguez, and paternal grandparents, Lucio Jimenez Sr. and Guadalupe Rivera Jimenez.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 6, from 3 to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Rivera Funeral Home in Mission. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 9 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Mission. Interment with military honors will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veteran's Cemetery in Mission.

Serving as pallbearers will be Francisco Tristan Jr., Ricardo Reza, Richard Rodriguez, Fredrick Reza, George Rodriguez Jr. and J.R. Cantu. Honorary pallbearer will be Michael A. Montoya.
