OBIT-Manuel Gutierrez

MISSION - Manuel Gutierrez, 85, passed away on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013.

Mr. Gutierrez was born on Sept. 11, 1928 in Romita, Guanajuato, Mexico, and lived most of his life in Mission. He was a self-employed as a bricklayer and a seasonal farm worker.

Survivors include his wife, Maria de la Luz Gutierrez; children, Toni Rhodes, Esequiel Gutierrez Sr., Janie Villegas, Mario Gutierrez, Delia Camp, Linda Diaz, Rey Gutierrez, Sylvia Lau, Bettye Wiginton, M Sgt. Manuel Gutierrez Jr., US Army Ret. and M Sgt. Nicho Gutierrez, US Air Force Ret.; brother, Jesus Gutierrez; and sisters, Lupita Gutierrez, Teresita Rosales, Jovita Gonzales, Nena Hidrojo and Estela Gonzales; and 32 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Salvador Gutierrez; daughter, Maria de la Luz Gutierrez; parents, Dionicio and Jovita Gutierrez; brother, Luz Gutierrez; and sisters, Carmen Maldonado and Juanita Gutierrez.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 12 p.m. at El Divino Redentor in Mission. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen.
