MISSION - Eligio Rivas Sr., 78, passed away on Monday, Nov. 04, 2013.
Mr. Rivas was born on Nov. 30, 1934 in Los Ebanos. After serving in the U.S. Army, he worked at Roper’s in Mission and then retired from Goodyear Tire in Pharr. He went on to begin a career in real estate working at the Goodwin Agency in Palmview and Real Estate Investment Co. of Sharyland.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Tina Rivas; children, Terry Castillo, Eligio Rivas Jr., Norma Jean Guerra and Dennis Rivas; brothers; Eloy Rivas and Edelmiro Rivas; sisters, Sister M. Veronica Rivas, MCDP, Elizena Torres, Elma Salinas, Enedina Vela and Emilia Rivas; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Emilia Rivas, and brother, Eutiqio Rivas.
Visitation will held on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 1to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Virgil Wilson Mortuary in Mission. The funeral mass will be held on Friday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission. Military services will be under the direction of American Legion Post 93.
