OBIT-Annie Lucille Chesnutt Rankin

Annie Lucille “Lucy” Chesnutt Rankin, 93, passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2014.

She was born to Alphus Carlton Chesnutt and Bessie Aline Adams in Birmingham, Ala. on March 20, 1920. They moved from Tampa, Fla. to Donna. She graduated from Edinburg High School at age 16 and Edinburg Jr. College at 18. While working for Judge Looney she met H. H. Rankin Jr. and they were married on July 24, 1939, settling in Mission.

Mrs. Rankin was a member of the Pan American Club and served as president of the Mission City Federation of Women's Clubs.

Survivors include her children, H. Hollis Rankin, III, Robert C. Rankin and Deborah Ann Wagner; sister, Aline Anderson of Birmingham, Ala.; and 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years.

Visitation will be held at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m. at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Mission. Ricky Sanderford of First United Methodist Church in McAllen will officiate.
