Rufina D. Flores

MISSION – Rufina “Rudy” D. Flores, born Jan. 24, 1927 in Kingsville, TX passed away, peacefully surrounded by her children, and went to be with the Lord on November 3, 2010 at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX after a brief illness.

She grew up in Kingsville and moved to Mission in 1950 when she married her husband, Berto Flores+. Rufina and Berto were proud owners of B. Flores Food Store, a neighborhood grocery business they operated with their children from 1961 to 1990.

Rudy had a big heart and gave generously of her time and volunteered for many years with the Texas Citrus Fiesta.   She was very active in the community by serving for the Hidalgo County and City of Mission elections as a clerk or election judge. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Guadalupana organizations for many years.

She was the most loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend that anyone would have hoped to have as a part of their life. She enjoyed life to the fullest and spending time with her family, especially attending events of her grandchildren.

Her favorite saying was “May God be with you,” and now she finds herself in his presence.

Left to cherish her memory are Diana F. Alcocer and her husband, Eduardo, of Mission; Roberto Flores of Mission; Delia F. Guzman and her husband, Luis Rene Guzman, of Pharr; and Javier Flores and his wife, Melva, of Mission. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Adri and Edee Alcocer, Luis and David Guzman and Roberto (Bobby) Flores II.

She is also survived by her brothers, Noe Diaz and his wife, Aurora, of Austin, and Adan Diaz and his wife, Delfina, of Houston; sisters-in-law, Dalia (David+) Diaz of Austin, Maria (Gilbert+) Diaz of Crosby, and Elisa (Roldan+) Diaz of Kingsville; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Gilberto and Filomena Diaz; brothers, Wilfredo, Luis, David, Roldan, and Gilbert; and her sisters, Emma and Matilde (Ralph+) Capre.

Visitation was held November 5 at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission.  A funeral mass was held November 6 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission.  Burial followed at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen.
