OBIT-Mateo V. Cavazos

MISSION - Mateo V. Cavazos, 81, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014.

He was born on December 16, 1932.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Estela Cavazos; daughters, Lisa Elizondo, Amanda Contreras and Jessica De Leon; brothers, Jose Mario Cavazos, Jose Angel Cavazos and Jorge Cavazos; sisters, Maria Cerda and Rafael Soria; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Matias and Calixtra Cavazos; siblings, Juanita Cavazos, Estefana Garza, Rafael Cavazos, Bruno Cavazos, Manuel Cavazos, Matias Cavazos, Reyes Cavazos, Hector Cavazos, Francisco Cavazos and Faustino Cavazos.

The funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 1, at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission. Honors will be made by the Mission Police Department.

Serving as pallbearer will be Matthew Elizondo. Honorary pallbearers will be Deven De Leon, Garrett Lyssy, Mateo Cavazos, Beto Cavazos and Larry Cavazos.

The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to Comfort House in McAllen.
