MISSION – Disidoro “Don Lolo” Ortiz Sr., 91, passed away on November 13, 2010, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg.
Mr. Ortiz was born April 4, 1919 to Wencenslada and Marcial Ortiz in Mission. In May of 1942, he went into the Army, where he served as a sergeant in the Army Corp of Engineers 511. In 1945, he married his wife of 36 years, Maria Rita de la Luz, who passed away on September 10, 1981.
He is survived by his children, Rolando (Maria Elena) Ortiz, Maria Lydia Ortiz, Anna Ortiz-Castrejon, Marta (Bill) Morrison, Denora Ortiz-Salazar, Juan Roberto (Lila) Ortiz, Juana Maria Tealer, Diana (Baldemar) Arteaga, Teresa M. (Keven) Adams, Thelma (Rick) Garza, and Desidoro Ortiz III; and 38 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a son, Desidoro Ortiz Jr., and six brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held on both Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, November 18, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial will follow at San Jose Catholic Cemetery in Mission.
