OBIT-Maria Christina Vasquez

HIDALGO – Maria Christina Vasquez, 91, passed away on on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Doctor's Hospital in Edinburg.

Mrs. Vasquez was born on April 6, 1923 to Manuel M. Peña and Maria Dillard in Mission and graduated from Mission High School. A resident of Hidalgo, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and served on numerous boards and committees there, including Borderfest, Hidalgo's Festival of Lights and Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce. She was recently inducted into the the Rio Grande Valley Walk of Fame.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin M. Vasquez; daughter, Cynthia Vasquez; her parents; and brothers, Manuel, Humberto, Horacio and Jaime Peña.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. with the 7 p.m. rosary at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen. The funeral service will be at Sacred Heart on Tuesday, April 22, at 1 p.m.   Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission.

Pallbearers will be Joe Vera, Mike Perez, Horacio Peña, Edward Peña, Daniel Peña and Robert Peña.
