OBIT: Guadalupe Barrera

MISSION – Guadalupe “Lupe” Barrera passed away at his residence in Mission on June 6, 2011.

He was born in Mexico, but later moved to Mission, and lived here most of his life.  He worked for 27 years and retired from Mission CISD Maintenance Department.20110610_OBIT_lupe-barrera_001

Mr. Barrera is survived by his lovely wife of 44 years, Elva Barrera of Mission; children, Cesar Barrera of Mission, David (Rosa Nelly) Barrera of Edinburg, Marcos Barrera of Mission, Elizabeth (Julio) Nieto of Mission, Magali (Baldemar) Bermudez of Mission, Maria Guadalupe (Jesus) Hernandez of Victoria, and Daniel (Claudia) Barrera of Mission; 20 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren;  and four brothers and six sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents Antonio and Antonia Barrera; sisters, Genoveva Barrera, Rosa Elena Villarreal, and Elia Trevino; and a brother, Valentine Barrera.

He will be greatly missed.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a friend.  He spent his last moments surrounded by his loved ones.  He enjoyed making everyone laugh with his jokes and loved his animals.

Visitation will be held June 9 from 12-9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m.  The funeral mass will be held June 10 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Mission at 10 a.m. Interment follows at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mission.  Funeral services are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home of Mission.
