MISSION - Arturo M. Gonzalez, Sr., 87, passed away on July 4, 2011, at Mission Nursing Home. He was a lifelong resident of Mission.
He enlisted in the Army during WW II where he was a Pvt. 1st Class and fought in the Battle of Okinawa. He was the barber/owner of Deluxe Barber Shop for 47 years. He will always be remembered as a family man, who was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Emma Gonzalez of Mission; daughters San Juanita "Janie" (Kevin) Connelly of Mission and Norie (Oscar) Garza of Mission; grandchildren, Aaron Connelly, Laura (Jose Luis) Flores, David Connelly, Carina Garza, Aissa Garza, Oscar Arturo Garza, Alyna Garza; siblings, Rodolfo (Rosalinda) Gonzalez, Lilia Gonzalez, Flerida Gonzalez, Enedelia Gonzalez, Joe (Emma) Gonzalez, Fidel (Lydia) Gonzalez Jr., Rosalinda (Raul) Lopez; sister-in-law, Zulema Gonzalez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Fidel and Victoria M. Gonzalez Sr.; son, Arturo Gonzalez Jr.; and siblings, Estela G. Luna, Alvaro Gonzalez, and Eleazar Gonzalez.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 6, from 3-9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission. A funeral mass will be held July 7 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial follows at San Jose Catholic Cemetery in Mission. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
