MISSION - Olivia D. Abbott, 90, left to be with the Lord on July 8, 2011 at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen. She was born on Dec. 7, 1920 in Mission, to Antonio Diaz and Altagracia Garza.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert M. Abbott, Sr.; and siblings, Elmo Sanchez and Emma Zapata.
Left to cherish her memory is her children, Barbara (Leonel, Jr.) Barrera of McAllen, Robert (Irene) Abbott, Jr. of Mission, Richard Allen (Norma) Abbott of Lacey, Washington, Charles D. (Zelda) Abbott of Edinburg, Larry James (Idalia) Abbott of McAllen and Rudy Abbott of McAllen; sister-in-law, Mary Abbott Dekock from Mission; 12 grandchildren, Laura (Rigo) Rodriguez of San Juan, Joey Flores of Richmond, Trey (April ) Barrera of Kingsville, Robert M. (Alice) Abbott, III of Oceanside, California, Eric Abbott of McAllen, Joseph Abbott of Mission, Richard Abbott, Jr. of Lacey, Washington, Shawn Abbott of Carriere, Mississippi, Kenneth Abbott of Lacey, Washington, Jessica (Nick) Garza of Sharyland, Charles (Melissa) Abbott of Cypress, Texas, Shayla Abbott of McAllen; 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Monday, July 11, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Virgil Wilson Memorial Chapel in Mission. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 12, at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen.
Pallbearers will be all her grandsons.
The Abbott family wishes to thank the staff at both Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Nursing Home in McAllen and Arbor View Nursing Home in Edinburg, the doctors and nursing staff at Rio Grande Regional Hospital for all the care provided.
