OBIT: Eva L. Corpus

Eva L. Corpus, 88, passed away, Monday, July 18, 2011 surrounded by her family at Comfort House/Casa de Consuelo in McAllen after a two-month illness.

She was born in San Angelo on January 26, 1923 and moved to the Rio Grande Valley as a teenager, where she met and married Guadalupe Corpus. An accomplished couturier, she created and designed clothes for clients before entering the workforce. She began as a seamstress at Ben-Sam's and Dina's Children Store in Mission, graduating to sales in the garment business. She worked for the Freeman family at their clothing stores, Smart Shop and the Women's Shop in McAllen, before settling at Levine's Department Store while raising her family. She retired but returned to work for the Attorney General's office as a file clerk, retiring again at the age of 73. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

She is survived by her children Arnaldo Corpus, Diana Corpus Garza, and Velma Cruz; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Guadalupe; parents, Amado and Tomasa Lopez Sr.; and siblings, Francisca Flores and Daniel and Amado Lopez, Jr.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church followed by a burial at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Norberto Andres Cruz, Carlos Javier Cruz, Ramon Mancias, Jr., and Kevin Dax Corpus, and her nephews, Urbano and Lee Corpus.

The family requested that memorial donations be made to Comfort House/Casa de Consuelo in McAllen.
