MISSION - Linda Marroquin Cardenas left us on July 25, 2011 and now rests in the arms of God, free of pain and suffering. She faced her illness with courage and an undying faith in the Lord her God.
Mrs. Cardenas was born in Mercedes on February 17, 1949 and graduated from Mercedes High School in 1967. She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1991, after 23 years.
She served on the Board of American Diabetes Association, Sharyland I.S.D. Board of Trustees, president of the Diamondback Athletic Booster Club, and was founder the Sharyland I.S.D. Education Foundation.
A compassionate, loving, caring, and unselfish person, she cared about her family, and would never put her needs before anyone else. She thought of others first and had a way of making anyone she knew or had just met feel important. She never met a stranger she did not like.
She is survived by her husband, Rigo Cardenas; daughters, Lisa (Cesar) Villarreal of Sharyland, Gina (Jason) Skloss, Christina Cardenas (Ricco Ollervidez) from McAllen and Angela (Randy) Copeland of Denton; sisters, Ofelia (Vicente) Estevis of Edinburg, Odilia Marroquin of Mercedes; brother, Mike Marroquin; and six grandchildren, Christopher, Anthony, and Sebastian Villarreal of Sharyland, and Dakota, Hunter, and Miranda Copeland of Denton.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Tomas and Santos Marroquin; brothers, Tomas Jr., Rodolfo and Baldemar Marroquin; sisters, Sylvia Rodriguez and Delia Flores; and father-in-law, Ruben Cardenas.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 28, at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home from 3 to 9 p.m. with a memorial service and celebration of her life at 7 p.m. There will be no funeral services as her wishes were to be cremated.
In lieu of floral tributes, donations may be made to the Sharyland ISD Education Foundation or the Food Bank RGV.
