ALTON - Manuel Arteaga, 87, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2011 at Lifecare Hospital in McAllen. He was born in Mercedes on May 1, 1924.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Consuelo Martinez Arteaga of Alton; sons, Baldemar (Diana) Arteaga of Leander, Manuel (Marina) Arteaga Jr. of Buda, Miguel (Missy) Arteaga of Mission, Rogelio (Maricela) Arteaga of Alton; daughters, Norma Arteaga of Alton and Rosa (Arnulfo) Cuate of Mission; brothers, Primitivo Arteaga of Florida, Juan Arteaga of McAllen, Jose Francisco Arteaga of Mission; sisters, Guadalupe Esquivel of Alton, Herlinda Vargas of Houston, Lily Perez of Virginia and Consuelo Ochoa of Indiana; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Jesus and Ernestina Arteaga; brothers, Patricio Arteaga and Jose Pepe Arteaga; and sisters, Agustina De Anda, Theodora Rodriguez, and Maria Quintanilla.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 25, from 1 to 9 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Flores Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Mission. A funeral mass will be held Friday, Aug. 26, at 9 a.m. at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Alton. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen.
