In last weekend's District 16-5A Team Dual Championship wrestling competition, Juarez-Lincoln High School emerged as the only school to qualify both boys and girls teams for the championship match. The girls emerged as district champs, while the boys took second place, falling to Nikki Rowe in the final match.
In what is traditionally an individual sport, team dual wrestling is as much a team sport as football, basketball, baseball and soccer. While the matches do pit individual wrestlers against each other, the points each wrestler earns are credited to his or her team and are tallied to determine the winner of each team vs team matchup.
In the boys tournament the LJJL Huskies came as close to bringing home the championship trophy as they could. After wrestling their way to the championship match, they took Nikki Rowe High School to overtime in the final match of the day before falling three points short.
