Thirteen straight, district champs and more to come

“It’s not over yet.”

Those were the words of Sharyland basketball star and team co-captain Quino Pistokache following his team’s regular season finale over McHi on Tuesday night.

Yes, more is to come—including a date with Laredo Nixon next week—but there has been plenty to celebrate already.

MISSION – By virtue of its two-game lead over Nikki Rowe, the District 30-5A title had already been anointed upon the Rattlers of Sharyland High School. Win or lose the Rattlers were set to celebrate the title with the cutting of the net, pictures and even some Valentine’s Day cupcakes.

Bi-District Update: Sharyland girls take down Laredo Nixon, 45-43

For the second year in row the Sharyland Lady Rattlers are bi-district champions. The District 30-5A runner-ups took down Laredo Nixon. Ironically, it was Nixon who Sharyland took down last year.

The Lady Rattlers will move on to play the winner of Harlingen and Brownsville Rivera.

Monday’s Big Six Boys and Girls Basketball Rankings

Editor’s Note: The Big Six Rankings have changed.
Instead of ranking the top three teams of a sport for both the boys and the
girls, we will now rank the top six teams but encompassing all the sports. The
rankings will be based on which team is playing the best and appears to have
the best outlook for the foreseeable future. Now that the spring sports season
is upon us, the rankings will be based on baseball, softball, track and field,
boys and girls soccer, etc.

UIL Realignment affects local teams and districts

On Friday, February 3, the University Interscholastic League held their bi-annual district realignment.
