32-4A BOYS BASKETBALL: Veterans steps up game to get huge road win

20110121-JLHS-v-VMHSVeterans Memorial took a big step Friday night.

Playing on the road in the loud brand new stadium of Juarez-Lincoln, the Patriots responded to a slow first quarter to go on to defeat the Huskies in convincing fashion, 43-31. The win furthers the team’s quest for a playoff spot and pushes Juarez-Lincoln’s (4-7 in district) farther away.

Hard working Rattlers ready to defend district title

20110121_Soccer_Boys_SHSvsRoma_DY_162010 was a memorable season for Sharyland soccer. The Rattlers took the District 30-5A title and proceeded to make a remarkably strong run in the tournament, proceeding to the Regional Semifinals before getting knocked out in a shootout versus San Antonio Clark.

Inevitably such a run is hard to follow up the following year. Yet for head coach Rev Hernandez his team should never be counted out because his boys possess hard work and unity.

30-5A GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lady Coyotes fall to Sharyland in squeaker

Fresh off an upset over McHi last weekend, the Lady Coyotes of La Joya welcomed the Sharyland Lady Rattlers in a Tuesday night showdown last night. Unlike the teams' first meeting when the Rattlers cruised to a win, La Joya would give the district leaders all they could handle before falling in the final seconds, 38-36.

The game ended as a thriller but began as a dud. Six minutes into the game the score stood 2-1, favoring Shary. The last two minutes of the first quarter saw the foes exchange baskets. With just seconds remaining and La Joya in possession and down 3-4, Ali Navarro grabbed a Karla Trevino miss and put it straight back in to give her team a 5-4 lead when the first quarter buzzer sounded five seconds later.
