Manny Flores’ team started district off with high hopes after they won their first two games over Mission and rival La Joya. The two wins showed a dual-quarterback offense and talented receivers. However, as in times past, Palmview struggled to play with the district’s powerhouses. The Lobos have lost four straight since their win over La Joya, only one of which was within ten points.
The final game for the red and black will be next Friday verses the Memorial Mustangs. McAllen Memorial will be looking to complete an undefeated run in district to obtain sole ownership of the 30-5A championship. On Friday the team took down the Donna Redskins.
Shary 49 La Joya 0: Piece of cake win before next week’s finale with the McHi Bulldogs. The game will decide the district’ second place team.
Rowe 18 Mission 16: By beating the Eagles, Rowe’s playoff hopes are still alive. They just need to beat La Joya next week and hope for a Mission upset over Donna.
Rio Grande City 35 Hidalgo 15: The Rattlers are officially in the playoffs. The Pirates need to beat Weslaco East next week to secure the fourth spot over Roma. The Gladiators beat Hidalgo, giving them the edge.
Mercedes 44 Valley View 0: No surprise here. The Tigers have to win next week against Roma and then hope for a Hidalgo loss to East. Very doable.
Roma 37 Juarez-Lincoln 17: The Gladiators control their own destiny if they can win next week against Mercedes. The Huskies host RGC to finish their season.
Weslaco East 31 Edcouch-Elsa 14: Surprise easy win over the Yellow Jackets. Now for an outright district championship by beating Hidalgo. E-E finishes with Veterans Memorial next week.
