MISSION – A win tonight for the Lady Eagles is a near must in order to stay in contention for a postseason berth. Currently on a three-game win streak, Mission hopes to make it four straight as they take on second-place McHi in tonight’s District 30-5A showdown.

Though the three wins are reason to celebrate, they have come at the expense of some of the district’s worse teams. In fact, none of the teams have any shot at the postseason and have hardly been competitive with the rest of the district.

Despite this, Mission has played well in these games. Alexandra Cedillo has led the team in scoring for all three games, averaging 15 points-per-game. A big effort from Cedillo and teammate Carolee Lopez will be needed.

The last time Mission took on McHi, they lost 29-13. The game was closer than what the final score indicated but Mission struggled to score. The loss sent the Lady Eagles on a four-game losing streak as they lost to the district’s top teams.

One game behind fourth-placed La Joya, Rene Garza’s squad not only needs to win tonight but perhaps their next two as well. On Friday the team takes on the Lady Coyotes and will need a victory in order to create a tie for that final playoff spot.

The game tonight begins at 6 p.m.

Other Games-Girls

Sharyland vs. Palmview: The Lady Rattlers should have no problem taking care of the Lady Lobos.

La Joya vs. Memorial: The Lady Coyotes cannot afford to have any surprise losses this late in the season. A win tonight and then a win on Friday against Mission will seal La Joya’s playoff fate.

Juarez-Lincoln at Brownsville Veterans Memorial: Despite being out of playoff contention the Lady Huskies have a good chance of winning tonight.

Veterans Memorial at Roma: Even with a loss tonight the Lady Patriots will still be one game ahead of Roma in the district standings. However, for momentum reasons a win tonight in Starr County would be huge.

Other Games-Boys

Mission vs. McHi: The Eagles are out of consideration for a postseason bid but they can make the Bulldogs’ playoff seeding lower than it would like with a win.

Sharyland vs. Palmview: The Rattlers had an easy victory over the Lobos the last time the two teams played so it will be interesting to see how they do against a visiting Palmview team that has won its last five.

La Joya vs. Memorial: The Coyotes’ chances for a bi-district appearance are nearly impossible but winning against the Mustangs would improve those chances.

Juarez-Lincoln at Brownsville Veterans Memorial: This game is huge for the Huskies. Juarez needs a win to stay firmly entrenched in the district’s top four.

Veterans Memorial at Roma: The Patriots really need an upset tonight. It won’t be easy against the district’s top team.
