EDINBURG, Texas--- The Edinburg Roadrunners of the North American League announced today the hiring of Ed Nottle as their new manager for the upcoming 2012 season.Nottle is a veteran of the baseball wars having spent 10-years in the Chicago White Sox organization as a player. He moved to the coaching lines in 1972 and became Field Manager in the Oakland As minor league system in 1978.
Nottle was promoted to the big league staff of the As in 1983 and moved to the Boston Red Sox organization a couple years later. He was named International League Manager of the Year in 1987 while at the helm of the Pawtucket Red Sox.
Nottle moved to independent league baseball as he took charge of the Sioux City Explorers in the Northern League in their inaugural season of 1993. He stayed with the club through the 2000 season and returned in 2006 when the Explorers entered the American Association. Most recently Nottle served as pitching and third base coach with the Brockton Rox of the Can-Am Association.
Nottle has spent over 50-years in the game and has been affectionately named Singing Ed because of his avocation as a singer.
I am looking forward to coming to the valley and being part of a great baseball community, Nottle said. We are working on putting together a winning team that the fans can get excited about.
The Edinburg Roadrunners begin their season with a four-game home stand that starts Wednesday May 23rd against the Abilene Prairie Dogs at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
