Roadrunners walk-off for game one win

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners defeated the Amarillo Dillas 3-2 in 10 innings with a walk-off double from Nelson Teilon at Edinburg Baseball Stadium to take a 1-0 lead in the United League Baseball Championship Series.

The Dillas (2-1) got on the scoreboard in the top of the third against starter Tim Haines. With two outs, Joaquin Rodriguez hit a triple to right field and then came into score on an RBI single by Carlos Figueroa.

That is all Haines would allow after pitching seven innings while scattering four hits and striking out seven.

The Roadrunners (3-1) tied the ball game at one in the bottom of the third when Wilmer Pino hit a solo home run off of Ralph Roberts.

Wilson Batista led off the bottom of the fourth with a walk and then stole second base. Two outs later, Robert Matlock hit an RBI single to center field allowing Batista to score giving the Roadrunners the 2-1 lead.

Amarillo tied the game at two with a two-out RBI single by Stephen Douglas in the top of the eighth inning off of reliever Rey Silva.

In the top of the 10th, Matlock led off with a walk and then moved to second after Pino dropped down a sacrifice bunt. After an intentional walk to Felix Molina, Nelson Teilon hit an RBI double off of reliever J.R. Boling (0-1) allowing Matlock to score the game winning run giving Edinburg the 3-2 victory.

Julio Castro (1-0) got the win after pitching two-thirds of an inning and getting out of a jam with runners at first and third.

The Roadrunners and Dillas will play game two in about 30 minutes at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Jose Pablo Oyervidez is expected to face Ryan Mitchell with the first pitch scheduled for 8:45 p.m.
