Two of the Valley’s top football programs will be holding youth football camps in the coming weeks. Veterans Memorial, 32-4A’s co-champion in 2011, starts its four-day camp on Monday. Sharyland, the two time defending champion in 30-5A, will hold its camp the first week of August.
The Patriots’ camp will be under the supervision of Head Coach David Gilpin. The location will be on the practice field at VMHS. Fees for registration are $30 per camper. However, for multiple participants from the same family, $20 will be the price for a second participant and $10 for a third. The camp is geared for incoming third graders all the way to incoming high school freshman and offers instruction for all offensive and defensive positions. The camp will consist of daily competitions and prizes. All participants will receive a Patriot Football camp t-shirt.
Sharyland, on the other hand, is sponsoring a camp called the Summer Football Mini Camp. The four-day event is for kids ages 8-12 and all 7th, 8th and 9th graders that will be attending schools in Sharyland I.S.D. The camp will run Aug. 1-4 and place an emphasis on the fundamental and basic skills of football for each age group. For participants aged 8-12, the camp will be held in the morning from 9-11 a.m. For the 7th-9th graders, the camp will be held in the evening, from 5-7 p.m. The cost of the camp is $35 for each camper and can be paid at the Sharyland High School athletics office.
