OBIT-Leopoldo Ramirez

MISSION – Leopoldo Ramirez, 62, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014 at McAllen Medical Center.

Mr. Ramirez was born Sept. 28, 1951 in Peñitas. He served in the Army from 1972 to 1974 as a military police officer. He then worked as an officer for the Edinburg Police Department before starting his teaching career of 32 years with Edinburg C.I.S.D. and Hidalgo I.S.D. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Ann Ramirez; sons, Leopoldo Ramirez Jr., Xavier Ramirez and Leonel Ramirez; mother, Maria de Jesusa Ramirez; brothers, Leonel Ramirez, David Ramirez, Leobardo Ramirez and Rene Ramirez; sisters, Cleo Ramon and Gloria Femat; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leonel Ramirez Sr.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 10, from 3 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary at Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen. The funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, March 11, at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe with Rev. Roy Snipes officiating. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
