OBIT-Raul Martinez

MISSION – Raul “Marty” Martinez, 65, of Mission, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Comfort House in McAllen.

Born to Raul and Maria Q. Martinez in Flint, Mich., he was raised in Victoria and Mission, where he graduated from Mission High School in 1969. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was awarded five medals, including the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat V. He served as a Mission police officer and worked for Halliburton for nearly 35 years. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, the American Legion and the Leatherneck Motorcycle Club.

He was preceded in death by his mother and siblings, Julian, Pauline, Jesse, Joe and Richard.

Survivors include his wife Irma; daughters, Melissa Galvan of Mission and Dolores Lozano of Laredo; father, Raul Sr. of Austin; siblings, Oralia Delgado, Armando and Cynthia Martinez of Mission and John of Fargo, N.D.; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 24, from 5 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary Flores Funeral Home in Mission. The funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial will follow at RGV State Veterans Cemetery.
