OBIT-Sylvia G. Ortiz
MISSION – Sylvia G. Ortiz, 77, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Briarcliff Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in McAllen.
She was born in San Isidro on June 23, 1936.
Survivors include her children, Belinda Deforest, Arturo Ortiz Jr., Omar Ortiz and Sonya Garza; siblings, Maria McCall, Consuelo Hinojosa, Facundo Garza, Maria Elena Cruz and Noe Garza; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arturo Ortiz; parents, Merced Garza and Beatriz De La Cruz; and brother, Merced Garza.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 28, from 1 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary at Flores Funeral Home in Mission. The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 29, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
