Conway Baptist welcomes new pastors

20140620 New-ministers-ConAveThe members of Conway Avenue Baptist Church in Mission have recently welcomed three new pastors to their church family, according to Senior Pastor Johnny Mora. Joining the staff are Joe Ramey, associate pastor; Frank San Martin, youth pastor; and Chris Rangel, music pastor. They officially began their new assignments in April.

“We are excited to introduce to our community three new ministers God has brought to our way. These godly men come with a vigor to love God and love our community. We, as a church, have made it a goal to help the families in our community find hope in a broken world,” Pastor Mora said.

Pastor Ramey comes with 14 years of experience as a pastor in Virginia and two years as an associate pastor in Santa Fe, Texas.

Concerning his new assignment, Pastor Ramey said, “As pastoral team, we would like to see us develop strong families in the church—and a strong church family. We will strive to achieve this through discipleship in self-growth and partnership in growing together.”

He served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in aerospace engineering from Texas A&M University and the Air Force Institute of Technology, respectively, and went on to teach math and engineering in high schools at Veterans Memorial in Mission and in Virginia.

He has been married to his wife, Freda, for 45 years and has an adult daughter, Tara.

Pastor San Martin and his wife, Zaira, have worked in youth ministry for four years. He also has eight years of experience in worship ministry and has helped to organize Vacation Bible School projects in colonias and two, large youth events with the Rio Grande Valley Baptists Youth Regional.

Pastor San Martin has taken a deeper spiritual focus with the youth in his new assignment.

He said, “I’m here to serve the community. My goal is to be able to lead the youth through Bible study, youth events and fellowship to a closer relationship with Christ.”

He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The University of Texas-Pan American and worked as a grant writer for Hollis Rutledge and Associates in Mission.

Pastor Rangel has been in the ministry for over 20 years working with students and children and leading worship and is looking to build an active music program with youth of all ages.

“We want to build up and establish a good praise and worship team and also begin to train and bring up young people to do the same. We would like to create a youth band with the teen-agers singing and leading. With the children, we are going to establish a children’s choir where they are involved with learning music and learning how to play simple instruments.”

He and his wife of 24 years, Sonia, have two sons, a daughter and two granddaughters.

Commenting on the new additions and the future for the congregation, Pastor Mora concluded, “We are excited with the team that God has brought together here at our church, and we look forward to the great impact our new team will have in our great city.”

The church is located at the corner of Conway and Griffin Parkway. For further information about services or programs, call 585-2413.
