The Peñitas City Council agreed Tuesday to recommend Lloyd Loya for the open seat on the Agua Special Utility District Board of Directors.
When Peñitas Mayor Rigo Lopez was elected to office in May, he resigned from his seat on the Agua SUD board, where he had been serving as a representative of Peñitas. Agua SUD has 60 days to appoint a replacement or residents can petition for a special election.
At their last meeting, Agua SUD board members agreed to ask the city of Peñitas for a recommendation. Board Chairman Ricardo Ochoa said they would look at making the appointment in their July meeting.
At a special Peñitas meeting Tuesday, Lopez recommended Loya for the open seat, stating Loya was young and hungry.
“I know he has a big interest in Peñitas,” Lopez said. “I think Lloyd Loya is somebody I think would do a good job representing the city.”
Councilman Armin Garza agreed and motioned to recommend Loya. All members voted in favor of the motion, with the exception of Ramiro Loya, Lloyd’s father, who abstained.
