OBIT-Shizue Sakai Kawamoto

MISSION – Shizue Sakai Kawamoto, 91, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, at her home in Mission.

Mrs. Kawamoto was born on Feb. 3, 1924, in Westmoreland, Calif. until she and her family were relocated at a camp in Poston, Ariz. during World War II. After spending almost four years in the camp and working as a secretary, she came to the Rio Grande Valley in 1948.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, James Kawamoto; daughters, Joanne and Susan; sister, Aiko Shimamoto of Northridge, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyn Kawamoto Parsley.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial follows at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission.
