PALMHURST – Edith Billman Miller, 94, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015, at Amara Hospice in Edinburg.
Mrs. was born Jan. 20, 1921, in West Concord, Minn. to Willis D. and Agnes Mildred Billman. They lived in Montana before moving to the Rio Grande Valley in the 1930s. She attended Sharyland schools and was valedictorian of the 1938 graduating class. She married Ray Miller in December, 1941, and they were married 63 years.
She Miller graduated magna cum laude from Pan American University and was a member of Alpha Chi National Honor Society. She taught at Sharyland Elementary for over 25 years.
A lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Mission, she served as church secretary, board member and Sunday School Teacher.
Survivors include her daughters, Ann Lyles of Palmurst and Phyllis Kendrick of Comfort; brother, Lester Billman of McAllen; and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; sisters, Maxine Tedford and Shirley Fischer; and brothers, Lawrence, Joe, Dean, Albert and Robert Billman.
Graveside services were held Nov. 2 at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission with Rev. Bill Hicks of First Christian Church officiating.
